Speech and Language ServicesSpeech-Language Pathologists provide speech and language services to students with articulation, language, stuttering/fluency, and social communication difficulties.
The ability to communicate is perhaps the most important skill your child can acquire. Communication skills permit children to make sense of their world, to express themselves, and to learn information. These skills are central to success within the classroom and therefore early identification of a problem is crucial. Speech disorders include problems with producing sounds correctly, voice quality, and stuttering. Language disorders include difficulty in understanding or using language. For example, language disorders may include problems with understanding/identifying certain words, understanding/giving directions, answering/asking questions, or understanding/using correct grammar. Language disorders also include the inability to use appropriate social language or convey ideas to others. |
